When it comes to buying healthy snacks the first thing you need to do is look at the ingredients. If a bar has more than 10 ingredients it usually means a lot of unnatural and unhealthy stuff is added to the bar. This is the reason I love Lara, Kize, and Rxbar bars–because they have only a few ingredients, all of which are healthy and natural.

Whole Food Protein Bars

imagesKize Bars (https://kizeconcepts.com/). These bars are my favorite because they taste really good and have only a few ingredients and they all are healthy. They aren’t cheap (about $3.50 a bar), but they will fill you up.  My favorite flavor is the vanilla almond! Lara bars (http://www.larabar.com/). These bars are great because again very few ingredients and they have so many options to choose from. Other Snacks

img_3611-2In addition to bars, there are a ton of other snacks you can make yourself that can both fill you up and give you the energy and nutrients you need.  Here are a couple of our favorites.

Oatmeal Muffins.  Click here for the reciped and step-by-step directions. These are great to have for breakfast if you don’t have a lot of time and are in a hurry. These are super easy to make and will last you awhile.  A few Kyle tips:

  • Add Chia seeds and Flax seeds to make it more healthy
  • Replace chocolate chips with healthier options
  • Replace maple syrup with Agave.
  • Replace milk with almond or coconut mils

Of course one of the great things about muffins is that it is relatively easy to add any number of other things that you might need to supplement and enhance the muffins.

img_3614-2Energy Bites. Click here for the recipe and step-by-step directions. Shea always makes these for us and they are great to take on the go and have a snack in case you get hungry. As an athlete you have to eat a lot and it has to be healthy.

  • Add Chia seeds and flax seeds to the recipe to make it more healthy.
  • Replace Chocolate chips with raisins to make it more healthy.

We all need to eat and sometimes we get caught up with work or running from place to place and don’t have access to food. Preparing or buying these snacks allows you to always have food so you never have to go hungry or be low in calories. It’s important to know that when your body is hungry the first thing your body starts to eat is your muscles. Not eating isn’t the key to loosing weight it’s eating a lot of good foods.
